Kuranda Cookies

Kuranda Cookies are hand baked, artisan cookies from Far North Queensland, loaded with local quality ingredients and made with love. The ethos has stayed the same since 1992: real butter, free range eggs, Swiss chocolate and no preservatives.

The cookies began in 1992 in a home kitchen, when founders Thelma and Jeff baked a well loved family recipe that grew into a beloved icon of the region. When the founders decided to hang up their aprons, they put the business on the market hoping to find someone who would continue the legacy.

That someone was Jonathan (Jono) and Tip Cowie. Jono grew up on the Atherton Tablelands, begging his mum for a Kuranda Cookie from her cafe after school, so owning the brand is personal. He met Tip while working overseas in Laos, where she was a successful restaurateur who had worked with some of the country's most prominent chefs, pastry chefs and bakers. They made Far North Queensland their permanent home to raise their family.

Tip is now head baker. She kept the classic recipes and added subtle refinements to the flavours and textures, moving every cookie toward that perfect bite. Every cookie is individually hand baked in small batches in their kitchen in North Queensland.

Jono and Tip also own Wondaree Macadamia Nuts, so the macadamias in their cookies come from the Atherton Tablelands too. Both brands are now looked after by the same family, keeping two much-loved Far North Queensland names going for the next generation.
